Hi all,
we've run into an interesting problem with CDROM's. We have a CD-R setup on
a PC running Windows 95, it uses the Adaptec software package, with a Philips
CD-R unit - the 2660. Anyway, we burned a CD in ISO 9660 format, but with
long filenames enabled. I'm not sure which extension this is, I am aware of
the RockRidge extensions and the4 HSG one, but I could find no details of
which one this software uses.
Anyway the disk is readable on the PC and on a Mac running OS-8. However on
the Digital UNIX boxes we have - all running v4.0b - the file is regarded as
having "no valid filesystem" by the mount command, using CDFS. I've tried
all the variations one could think of (versions, bitmaps, etc.) and nothing
works. The man page for CDFS does cite that it adheres to the 1988
implementation of ISO 9660, and the 1991 incarnation of RRIP. And there's
some support for HSG - but all references look pretty dated.
I am unfamiliar enough with the CDROM formatting business to know if there
has been any new extensions developed for the ISO 9660 format. Is this case?
Any help and/or information and/or experience with difficulties loading newer
format CD's would be most welcome.
Happy Holidays and many thanks in advance.
