Thanks to Homer Wong hwong_at_asl.com.hk

The one thing I hadn't tried that worked - without needing the
registry hack in this case

Try printing from the unix host with lpr -l option.

Subject: Printing problems DU -> NT4 -> HP LaserJet5m

Hi
After my half success at printing through NT from DU thanks to all the
help I got, I've been unable to get postscript printing working to our
HP LaserJet 5m printers. Text works ok but the postscript comes out as
the postscript code suggesting it is wrapping the postscript document
as postscript..
I thought this might be the NT bug described to me by several people
(Technet article Q168457) and have tried hacking the registry setting
for the printer to add the PassThrough Value. This hasn't given any
success. I was wondering what NT settings I should be using.
We tried both the generic text and the driver for the printer. The
print processor is winprint and we tried the default datatype as RAW
(all 3 types) and TEXT. So many combinations - I may have missed the
correct one.
Behaviour differed from it printing out the postscript code to the job
disappearing completely (with the registry hack) where it appeared to
go to the printer queue on NT but nothing came out on the printer.
(As background I'll add that the print queue on the unix side is set
up correctly as a remote queue pointing to the nt printer queuename on
the nt print server. I can also set up a queue to print directly to
the same printer from the unix box which successfully prints the same
postscript document)
Anyone got any further ideas?? I'm pretty frustrated with the whole
thing.
TIA
Sue
