Hello Managers,
Has anyone successfully set up this feature before? I followed the instructions in the release notes (V3.3/V3.2) and in the paper
http://www.networks.digital.com/dr/techart/gsfip-mn.html , yet no communication across the subnets is possible using ping and telnet. Any suggestions?
Basically, I've done the following steps:
1. Define IP address ranges (subnets) and the associated port lists.
2. Enable switched IP filtering.
3. Enable ARP serving.
4. Modify my end stations (Alpha boxes running Digital Unix 4.0A) so that the default gateway equals the station own IP address. This ensures that an ARP request is sent out for all destinations, ie. including those in different subnets.
My findings are:
* Although the ARP database contains both the sending and receiving IP addresses (in different subnets) and their MAC details, the switch does not forward the packet.
* The default filter matrix was left untouched (MIB value: ebrNportDefaultMatrixValue) so the ports definitely can communicate to each other.
All cards have the latest firmware, ie. V3.31 for SCP, V3.35 for linecards. I even tried SCP V3.2 when IP switching was first introduced, still no success.
This problem has been reported to Digital Support personnel who was able to replicate the exact setup in their Sydney (Australia) Lab and found the same outcome. I believe their Engineering headquarters is handling this issue. I suspect there is something wrong with the firmware. However, if you can suggest anything, please let me know.
