I am having a problem deleting a group of directories on an advfs
filesystem (/usr) which, when attempted, produces a permission denied
(as root) and subsequent core dump and system halt. I have an
AlphaServer 1000a, DU 4.0b with the Advfs utilities. I have run
defragment on this domain (usr_domain) which allowed me to remove
several subdirectories, but eventually I reach one subdirectory that
crashes the system. A curious note is that during defragment, an entry
of "moving file <unknown> set Tag 1.32769 page count 19776" . This
seems to be out of place and suspect. I tried to remove the parent and
above directories with no success. As long as I do not try to mess
with these directories, the system seems stable. Before this issue it
had been up for 5 months. Any suggestions on how to remove these
directories? I have considered doing a vdump to tape then recreating
the domain and restoring, but will this mystery file and it's problems
be carried with it? Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks
Joe
