Processes sticking around.

Hello,
We have an Alpha 2100 w/ DU4.0D as a realtime web server, running
Netscape Enterprise Server 3.5.1. The reason I mention that it's a "realtime"
server is 'cause data on it are constantly updated and hits on this machine are
very high. All of our CGIs are written in Perl, and things seem to work fine,
but from time to time, we'll notice that a few Perl (CGI) processes are left over from days ago ("ps -ef").

Ex:
UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD
netserve 601 1 0.0 Aug 10 ?? 12:14.00 ./ns-httpd -d ....
netserve 603 1 0.0 Aug 10 ?? 17:47.02 ./ns-httpd -d ....
netserve 21998 603 0.0 Aug 22 ?? 0:00.14 perl /cgi-bin/sell.cgi
netserve 26726 601 0.0 Aug 23 ?? 0:00.12 perl /cgi2/update.cgi

Does anyone have any idea why these processes might be left over?

Thanks in advance,
Bill Antoniadis
