clock resolution

I have a user who is wanting to do some real time computing. He is asking me
to increase the resolution of the system clock. I found the system
configuration
parameter CLK_TCK (# of clock ticks per second), but don't know how to do
anything
but display the current value. How do I modify this parameter (if this is
even the right aproach
to this problem.)? Or is there some reason that I shouldn't be messing
around with this, at all?
I'm not at all familiar with this area (as if I needed to tell you that!),
so any advice would be apreciated.

Thanks

Tony Warner
