Thanks to those who responded - sorry not to write a list but this is
a quick summary.
The answer is that Unix doesn't support generic print queues (at least
BSD flavoured unix).

Most people responding suggested using LPRng.

Hi all,

We are migrating a lot of stuff from VMS to DU. The software uses a
lot of generic print queues - ie one queuename that distributes jobs
to two printers.

I don't remember having seen this done under any flavour of unix I've
seen. Does anyone know if it is possible?
