joind not working: network not administered by server

I have an HP 8000N printer which was getting it's address via
DHCP/BOOTP. I had a Digital UNIX system running joind with the
appropriate information - it worked originally.

Now all I get is:

        DHCPDISCOVER from HW address 00:60:b0:ae:b1:78 : network not
administered by server

I tried another system - no difference.

The server and printer are on the same subnet.

Any ideas?
