Hi All ,
Question :
After partitioning a raidset on a HSZ70 I noticed
that the size given in 512k blocks does not match
the size given in the brackets in MB .
Partition number Size Starting Block Used by
1 6280955 ( 3215.84 MB) 0 D100
2 10469115 ( 5360.18 MB) 6280960 D101
3 4186875 ( 2143.68 MB) 16750080 D102
4 8375035 ( 4288.01 MB) 20936960 D103
5 8793595 ( 4502.32 MB) 29312000 D104
3771795 ( 1931.15 MB) 38105600 <free>
ANSWER :
After logging a call to Digitals CSS I was told that
the HSZ70 uses the calculation for the good old
"Marketing Megabyte" to work out the size in MBs .
The Marketing MB is blocks x 512 / 1,000,000 .
This calculation is used in the dxdisk GUI with the
sliding bars used to partition disks as well .
ergo : 6280955 / 2048 = 3066 (the actual size of partition 1)
6280955 x 512 = 3215848960 / 1,000,000 = 3215.84
is the marketing MB .
That is why my 4.3 GB disks are only 4090MB
and my 9 GB disks are only 8676 MB .
I was also told that my belief that there is 1024 bytes
to a KB and 1024 KB to a MB is just something that I
had presumed , and does not necessarily mean its true .
