Serial port rate

Hi DU managers,

 In the "Network Administration Document" from Digital, in somewhere
appear the following:

"Some modems set their baud rate to the serial port rate ..."

Now, how I can to know the baud rate of the serial port which my
modem is connected? I'm having problems trying to setting up my
modem of 28800 in my Alpha4100/DU 4.0D.
