Backing up Oracle databases on DU 4.0D cont..

Online backups of an oracle database are very tedious.
Oracle rely on system utilities to perform the backup ie. tar, cipo, dump,
vdump, etc. They (ORACLE) recommend
you shut the database down to do this, or you can do an online backup, but
only of 1 tablespace at a time and NOT the
system tables :( .

I have an idea of using ADVFS and the clonefset command. It would require
that all of the Oracle database (including the system tables)
be on the one filesystem and you have LOTS of disk space (same amount
again of your Orace DB).

If anyone else out there would know if this was possible (in theory it
sounds nice) please let me know.....

TIA
