Alpha 4100A ver 4.0B
question :
Hi All,
I just had a new alfa 4100A delivered .
Although it came with ver 4.0D CD I installed
ver 4.0B . The problem is it doesn't recognise
the DE500-BA ethernet card . It had firmware ver 5.0
on it and I dropped it down to 4.9 but it didn't help.
The card IS recogonised under ver 4.0D .
Does anyone know if I have to drop the firmware
down further or if this card is not compatible
with ver 4.0B .
Answers :
Thanks to all the people who replied .
Some said that it is not supported on any versions
below 4.0D , and some said that I could get it to work
on 4.0B as long as I installed the patch from the patch
kit . The patch kit #7 does include this :
OSFPAT00023900410.txt
PROBLEM: (Patch ID: OSF410-058)
********
Support for the DE500-BA requires recognition of a new PCI device ID and also
require specific code to operation the device.
(Their spellin , not mine :-)
The reason I wanted to install 4.0B instead of 4.0D was
because it was for acceptance testing , and the users
INSISTED that it have the exact same configuration as
our production machine . I cannot get any down time
to upgrade our prod machine just yet .
Instead of dickin' around , I was able to convince
people here that the difference in the versions
would make no difference , and by showing them
only the replies which stated that the card would only
work with 4.0D , I was able to install 4.0D and get
on with it .
Thanking you ,
