TLZ04 on an AlphaServer 2100?

Hello (again).

Will an external TLZ04 work on an AlphaServer 2100 running DU 4.0D?

The system in question has an internal TLZ06 that doesn't work. Bummer. I
have an old external TLZ04 that I slapped on the system. I did a SHOW CONFIG
at the console prompt; the TLZ04 shows up. Then, just to be certain there
was device support built into the kernel I booted off genvmunix, built a new
kernel, and rebooted off that new kernel.

I deleted /dev/*mt* and rebooted to ensure the special files got properly
built.

But whenever I (try to) access the TLZ04, nothing happens. No blinken
lights, no whirlin tape. As a sanity check, I dug up another decrepit drive,
a rebadged 8mm drive that shows up as a TKZ09. I yanked the TLZ04 and
connected the TKZ09 to the same system; it works fine (or at least as well
as a three-year-old 8mm tape works). But that verifies the SCSI ID, cable,
external port, and device file are all valid (right?).

So, after screwing with all those things I am beginning to wonder if the
TLZ04 will work on the 2100. Can anyone give me a definitive answer?

Thanks (again) for the help,
Jon
