To keep it short:
it works now, but I don't know why.
Thanks to all hints. What I did: I reinstalled Networker and the CLC313,
deleted the Jukeboxdevice, reconfigured it and now I can access the
jukebox. I'm quite sure I did the same once before. Maybe the power
cycle of the server and the jukebox gave the kick?
thank you
Here some hints (not all tested):
0) installed Mediachanger-Software CLC31x ?
1) Licensing issues (jukeboxes need license - JUKEBOX-TIER-1 in your
case)
2) You may need to delete the old jukebox from the nsr configuration(via
nwadmin or whatever).
3) jb_config program
4) Does 'file /dev/mcxy' return a proper string ?
The jukebox at our site responds with (after 'file /dev/mcxy'):
character special (53/17472) SCSI #1 TZ Media special_device #rr (SCSI
ID#a) (SCSI LUN #b). If you get only 'character special' you should
verify that the device created for the jukebox is the correct one.
5) find out the major and minor number of your device :
# file nrmt2h you'll get output something like this :
nrmt0h: character special (9/37891) SCSI #2 TZ887 tape #3 (SCSI ID #5)
(SCSI LUN #0) loader 62500_bpi
take note of the number in bracket.
then remove the device file:
# rm nrmt2h
and build it again :
# makenod nrmt2h c 9 37891
(replace these number with what you get from your output)

here my postings:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Hi,
until now I was using Networker 4.2b with Digital Unix 3.2d and a
Quantum Jukebox 4700. The jukebox had the devices /dev/nrmt2 and
/dev/mc9
Today I did a new installation (because the old one was update from 3.0
to 3.2d) of 4.0B. After that I installed again Networker 4.2b and after
that the CAM-Kit CLC313 for the mediachanger. Booting the machine, it
recognizes the tape and changer device.
I made the devices /dev/nrmt2 with MAKEDEV tz9 and mc9x with MAKEDEV.MC
mc9x and copied the whole /nsr tree to the new system.
BUT: Networker cannot access the Jukebox. Trying an inventory just
counts the slots quickly but does nothing.
I tried to reinstall Networker but cannot ad a Jukebox device (I can add
/dev/nrmt2h and activate jukebox but there is no jukebox in the
jukebox-dialog and no add button.
WHAT HAVE I MISSED? (I haven't done the jukebox installation on our old
system) It seems, that something with the SCSI-devices has changed with
Digital Unix 4.x
Sorry,
but some more informations:
- I mean an upgrade of the OS from 3.2d to 4.0B, whereas the networker
is still 4.2b
- yes, I have a Jukebox licence in lmf
- yes, I tried jb_config program, but this says I cannot find a media
changer.
