Funny characters in vi editor when using arrow key

Hi all,

one of my user told me that when she tried to use the up and down arrow key
using vi editor,
she pressed the down arrow key for a few times, a character 'A' will appeared
and when she pressed a few more rounds, character 'B' appeared. I tried it on
my pc and everything okay.

What has went wrong?
