Managers,
I have planned an upgrade of a DU machine running 3.2G to 4.0D. I've done
many upgrades before, but this will be the first time I have to worry about
ASE. I've altered my usual steps to include ASE as per software
installation notes but since I couldn't find any step-by-step instructions
for rolling upgrades (3.2G to 4.0D), I may be wrong somehow. If you have
done this upgrade yourself and see a problem with my steps please let me
know.
This is a 3 server environment (lets call them A, B and C). The one I'll be
upgrading tomorrow (A) basically stands seperate from the other 2 who are
connected via HSZ50, etc. Next weekend I'll be upgrading B and C at the
same time.
1) Run asemgr and delete A from the group
2) Stop ase on A. (/sbin/init.d/asemember stop)
3) Uninstall the ASE subsets
4) Upgrade DU to 4.0A
5) Install ASE (TruCluster) 1.4 and configure
6) Upgrade DU to 4.0B
7) Uninstall the ASE subsets
8) Upgrade DU to 4.0D
9) Install ASE (TruCluster) 1.5 and configure
10) Re-Add server to ASE cluster.
If you have done such an upgrade, I'd love to hear from you. I was
disappointed because according to the notes, I had to include a 4.0B
upgrade, and if there are any ways in which to speed things up, I'd be
pleased to know what they are! :)
Thanks,
Damien.
