vold woes

Hi

We have a 2100 running 3.2G with lsm. The machine was recently rebooted
and subsequently we have had problems with the vold daemon dieing and the
machine eventually hanging. We have had a crash dump, and a core made by
vold, analysed by our support vendor. Unfortunately they did not find
anything spectacular.

We are working on the theory that LSM has let us add disks (while the
machine is up) to a diskgroup above its maximum specified when the
diskgroup was initialised This wasn't a problem until the reboot took
place, due to LSM being restarted (or some other reason).

We think this may be the case because a new disk was added to the diskgroup
in question brining it to having a total of 31 disks. 30 happens to be one
of the examples of input when creating a new diskgroup with the voldiskadm
utility, someone could have selected it. The trouble is we don't know how
to find out the maximum number of disks allowed for a specific diskgroup.
So at the moment it's all theory.

So my questions are:

has anyone had any trouble with vold dieing/machines hanging on 3.2G? If
so what was the problem/resolution?

how do you find out the maximum amount of disks a diskgroup is initialised
with?

Thanks in advance and I will summarise!

Jason.
