TLZ09 switches

Hi

i have two TLZ09 attached to two dec alpha 200 4/166 running DU4.0B (soon
to be 4.0d or e) and i need some verification on the various
switch/jumper settings.

i want the drive to run in media recognition mode, with compression - ie i
need it to recognize my dds-1 and dds-2 dats and put my 4gb of dense
scientific data on one backup tape.

the reason i wonder about my settings is because since we have exchanged
our drives under our dec service warranty they don't seem to want to write
to our old backup (dump) tapes. they give an I/O error as included below.
would the tlz09 write to a dds-2 tape previously written by a drive in a
different mode?

below is the dump failure as well as the settings for the tlz09 as i
understand them. any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!
ciao
claudia

on the tlz09:
--------------
the jumpers are listed as:
        1 3 5 7 9 11 13 15
                X X
        2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16

Note: X=jumpered
where 1-6 are scsi id
7/8 data compression enabled - with no jumper
9/10 parity enabled - with jumper
11/12 reserved (?) - sent with no jumper
13/14 termination disabled - with no jumper
15/16 terminator power enabled - with jumper

i believe i want
        numb y/n why
        --------------------
        7/8 n compression enabled
        9/10 ?? ????????
        11/12 ?? ??
        13/14 n ??
        15/16 ?? ??

on the bottom of the disk are some more switches called drive switch
settings. they are labeled as:
        on on on on
        1 2 3 4
        off off off off

they are listed as:
1: drive mode - switch defaults to off for tlz09 mode
2: media rec. - defaults to off for NO mrs
3: self test - off to enable diagnostics self test at power up
4: reserved - in off position

i think i want
        1 - off for tlz09
        2 - on for mrs
3 - off to enable diagnostics
        4 - off
