Hi Managers,
Once in a great while, mail that goes to the internet
bounces back to us, with the following error from sendmail:
e.g. if recipient's address is "john_at_doe.com"
we get this message: 554 rewrite: cannot prescan new hostname:
Note that the hostname doesn't appear after this error line.
The error happens randomly--we send out email automatically
to the same list of recpients every day. I'd say this
happens once every 3 or 4 weeks, but when it does, there
are usually several instances of this.
Could it be that the DNS we use is briefly out for a time?
If so, is there any way to lengthen the time sendmail tries
to prescan the name before it gives up?
System is D. Unix 3.2.c; sendmail version 5.65 v3.2.
Thanks,
