Hi all,

I am having problems with an old DEC 3000-500M. The symptoms are:
- power down after about 20-30 minutes of operation from a cold boot.
- auto reboot fails and system flashes all front panel lights and beeps.

If I cycle the power switch I get a successful boot but the power goes
down again only much sooner than the first time.

I have read (in other messages in the archive) that the beeping is due
to a disk drive, which I have located (boot disk!) and disconnected. If
I then boot from CD-ROM the power down occurs again. If left unattended
the time between successive power downs reduces until the power up tests
are not completed before it powers down again!

I have read (also in the archives) that revision F PSU's are a common
factor in power failures (as are PSU's manufactured in China). Mine is
revision H manufactured in Hong Kong. Does anyone know of tests which can
be performed to verify that it is the PSU which is causing my symptoms.
If it is the PSU can it be repaired or do I have to fork out a small
fortune for a new one!
