Hello managers,
I have built and installed sendmail 8.9.1a on DU 4.0D according to the
instructions in the src/README file.
Many of the messages it processes are sent to an Exchange server, and some
of these messages are not being delivered: the sendmail log says
"stat=Deferred: Connection reset" or "stat=I/O error: I/O error".
This may happen to a message several times before it is delivered, and some
messages look as if they'll never be delivered.
The only messages affected are those with MIME-encoded attachments. But many
messages with such attachments are delivered without any problems, and we
can't find any reason why some are delivered and some are not.
On the Exchange server, the logs are not very useful: the messages appear
but are incomplete, as if the connection has been terminated before the message
was completely delivered.
The servers and the network are not heavily loaded, and the problem has only
appeared since we installed the Alpha with the new sendmail to replace an
Ultrix workstation running an older sendmail.
