System V password aging incompatible with DU 4.0

Dear Listmembers,

Recently, the powers-that-be at our site decided to implement password
aging for our population of HP-UX 10.20 users. Under HP-UX, the aging
parameters are encoded in a comma-separated subfield of 4 characters
appended to the password field of the passwd file. Apparently, this
scheme was originally implemented in AT&T System V, somewhere between
Release 2 and 3.

We also have a few Digital Unix, Ultrix and NetBSD systems that also
make use of this same passwd file (via NIS). These systems do not seem
to support this implementation of password-aging as standard.

Does anyone know of a solution for our DU 4.0 (Rev. 386) systems? Any
advice would be appreciated.
