Weird sendmail masquerading problem

Perhaps some help can be found on this wonderful list with a problem
that seems to have cropped up here with sendmail 8.8.8 on a Digital Unix
4.0b TruCluster configuration.

We recently changed the configuration of our TruCluster in that we added
one node onto the cluster and added another one. The new node is
AlphaServer 4100 machines. This is at the moment, a single node cluster.
The name of the cluster is astro.ocis.temple.edu. The name of the new node
is typhoon.ocis.temple.edu. The old node (which is not in service right
now) is tempest.ocis.temple.edu. Our sendmail configuration and
/var/spool/mail files are all shared between the two nodes.

Now, for some reason, sendmail seems to disregard our masquerade
configuration on typhoon. I have an entry in my m4 file that looks like
"MASQUERADE_AS(astro.ocis.temple.edu). I have been at this all morning
trying to get masquerading to work properly so that all outgoing e-mail
is identified as coming from astro.ocis.temple.edu, but no matter what I
do, after using m4 and than replacing the old sendmail.cf file with the
new one from m4, restarting sendmail, nothing seems to work. When I type
sendmail -bt and than type $=M, I get nothing. How can I get sendmail to
do this? Am I barking up the wrong tree by using masquerading?
