No replies on this problem. But this is what I found out:
Informix Tech Support tells me the Informix 8.21 install process is
erroneouosly requiring the Tru-Cluster product libraries to be installed.
In my case, I want the Informix Enterprise Server features, but I'm not
using multiple systems to access/update the database. So, I don't (and
shouldn't) need the Tru-Cluster product (and it's +/- $35,000.00 license).
Informix is addressing the "compilation error", and will provide a new
installation CD when it is ready. In the mean time, I tried a fix that
resolved a similar problem on an IBM SP2 platform. They created a "stub"
file by using the "touch" command. This did not work on my 4.0D system.
I just found out that the software fix is complete, so I'll be getting an
FTP copy of what I need.
Hope this post helps someone out later.

I am trying to install informix 8.21.FD1 on an AS4100 with 2 CPU's running
4.0D (no patchkits & fresh install from CD).
The informix "installonline" script fails with "889: etc/brand:
/sbin/loader: Fatal Error: cannot map libimc.so".
It would appear that Iost, or didn't install, something. But what ??
My typical install is everything on the CD.
Informix Tech Support found the following on their DEC Unix system (they
didn't say what version of Unix):
_rw_r__r__ bin bin /usr/opt/tcr150/shlib/libimc.so
and
lrwxrwxrwx root system /usr/shlib/libimc.so --->
/usr/opt/tcr150/shlib/libimc.so
(I'm guessing on the link permissions and ownerships).
They said the module is a "COFF format alpha shared library demand paged
executable or object module not stripped".
None of my systems (4.0B or 4.0D) even have a "/usr/opt/tcr150" directory.
I am going to call DEC support on this now. I just know the value of this
list for quick resolutions.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
