Is anyone doing this?
I have a Stacker 10e that was being used on an old Sun machine with the
old Artecon Stackutil tools. I would like to use it on my DEC UNIX 3.2g
with the Legato NSR software.
The NSR is the single server license, and the version I have supports
"juke boxes".
I think I want the Stacker 10e to behave as if it were a single 100GB
tape (each tape is supposed to be 10GB compressed). When the first tape
fills up, I want the stacker to put it back into slot one, then pick the
tape from slot two, and load that tape into the drive. This would continue
until all ten tapes are used, then I would reload ten new tapes into the
stacker and put lables on each new tape.
I don't think I want the NSR program to be able to randomly pick tapes.
My assumptions are:
1) All robotic control (tape movements) will have to be from the front
panel of the Stacker. It would be a nightmare to configure the NSR to
handle it.
2) I will have to configure the Stacker to be in "Sequential" mode. So
that when tape one fills up, it will put it back, and load tape two.
But...
What type of tape device do I set the NSR software for (a Jukebox, a
simple 8mm tape drive, ???)?
What else do I have to change on the Stacker 10e?
Thanks
