here is the summary to my question about crash dump into swap.
thanks to alan_at_nabeth.cxo.dec.com and rdbowma_at_tsi.clemson.edu for their
replies.
basically the info I received was that a single reasonably sized
page/swap space is enough for a
partial dump. The more recent versions of digital unix will do full and
partial dumps
to all of the page/swap spaces in use as needed. No specifics of when
this feature
was actually added in a specific version, but I assume it is in DU4.0b,
which is what
I am using. A swap file one time the size of memory on the system disk
should no
longer be needed.
thanks,
Allan
