SUMMARY: difference between a constrator and a terminal server.

Most of you stated that there really is not a difference between the two. I
was talking about a "concentrator" not a "constrator". btw.

The two applications that the application (bundle-er) were concerned about
were an application that handles FAXs (fax modem) and another was a pc that
needed to run Kermit to transfer files (why don't they use the network?).

I contacted the manufactures of the FAX application and they said the FAX
package would work no problem but it needed a reverse telnet running on the
port to the terminal server's fax modem. The Kermit package said in the
documentation that it would work over a terminal server.

The out come of this mess is the application / hard ware provider is going to
give us two concentrators for the AIX system. I think I'll move this stuff
over to the terminal server after they leave -- lameness has no excuse.

Thank you all for your time.

Hello World!

Currently we have a network made up of OpenVMS VAX/Alpha and digital unix. We
are in the process of buying an IBM RS/6000 for another application that the
users can not live with out.

The company that we are buying this machine from is telling us that they have
had nothing but bad luck with terminal servers and that we need to buy a
constrator for the RS/6000.

This is going to cause nothing but a real pain in the back side because of
cable location and the users running off of the dumb terminals connected to
the terminal servers need access to more than one system to do their job.

This will not be possible if the the terminal must be connected to a
constrator on the AIX box.

Are they just nuts or dose a AIX box have problems talking to terminal
sessions coming in from the network?

Thank you for your time.
