Hello,
This is my first posting on this list so be patient, please.
Problem: I/O errors on several discs now and then, slow performance on disc
operations
Spec: Digital Alpha au500, 768 mb internal memory, 2 extra wide-scsi
adapterboards,10 external Fujitsu discs, 1 internal Digital system-disk
Digital Unix 4.0C
The i/o errors has happend on several disk, sometimes so severe that the
computer crashes, sometimes easy fixed with rebooting, sometimes corrupt
file structure but mostly just to work on after rebooting. As said this
happens on several disk and on different scsi-boards. I/O errors sometimes
only on part of the disk, as an example you can work at the root but if you
cd down the structure you get i/o error. Also slow operation on commands
like cd and ls after approx. 30 min after reboot, yes, exactly after
rebooting there seems to be no perfomance problems.
Digital Sweden has tried to solve this but at no result. Their test
programs just works fine. Their solution = by Digital discs.
The discs worked fine earlier with an Alpha 433.
Anyone that has any suggestions? Feel free to ask for more info, i'm not to
familiar with Alpha and Unix (more VMS/NT system management).
Yours Sincerely,
/Gunnar Petersson
