Answer:
I'm not sure what exactly fixed the problem but at least it's working.
I am relatively sure I compiled the new version 1.9.17p3 once I got all the
patches on. Things didn't work so took off what I needed to get SAMBA up
and going as explained before.
This morning I removed all patches and reinstalled all patches. I had already
downloaded 1.9.17p5 and so I compiled and installed that version. I kept
getting a Session request failed message. The fix for that was in the smb.conf
Samba configuration file I had to change the hosts allow line from:
hosts allow 198.243.246.,255.255.255.0
to:
hosts allow 198.243.246.0,255.255.255.0
It used to work the first way but somewhere between 1.9.17 and 1.9.17p5 the
command was changed. Oh well, at least it works now.
