Dear Fellow Managers,
Once more I am soliciting your advice. We are about to configure a
storage array of approximately 200 GB in size. We are using HSZ40 array
controllers and wish to configure a series of RAID 0+1 volumes.
From what I understand about this, it seems that there are two possible
ways of doing this. One way is to configure a stripe volume of the
required size and then create another stripe volume of identical size
and use the second one to mirror the first. The other way seems to be
create a set of mirrored disk pairs and then stripe the resulting
volumes together to create a single volume of the required size.
I have three questions regarding the issues involved.
1: Does the controller support both ways?
2: What are the issues one should consider in deciding which way to
use?
3: Is any way more robust or failure tolerant than the other?
3a: If So Which way is more so?

Yours sincerely,

Robert Honore
