Jumbo patch 6 headache

Hello ppl,

I have been trying to install the latest jumbo patch for Dec Unix version
4.0b. No other patch has been installed previously.

There are many patches that will not install bc of "unknown origin" of
many standar files/programs ( ie. mount, ls, halt ... ). A while back,
Digital Tech support gave me a program that uses fverify to check the
validity of the packages installed. It had no complaints. I alsl ran a
"strings [filename] | head -1" to see if I could pull the Dec header,
which in turn each file had. The last clean install was done in July from
the 4.0b CD and no one runs a makeinstall, of third party software, on the
system.

Am I supposed to install a previous patch ( which I remember the releases
notes properly -> I dont ) ??? Or am I missing something ???

Thanks in advanced
