I forgot to tell about the system as I thought much systems have the
same console, a PC display connected to some kind of VGA or SVGA card.
This system is an AlphaServer 1000A, quite new.
When I
>>> boot -flags s
# bcheckrc
# TERM=....
# export TERM
# vi /etc/passwd
Then none of the above seem to work. And not even 'pccons' or whatever
is to be found in /usr/lib/terminfo. I hope, there may be some setup
parameter by which to define the console terminal emulation.
Yours, Lars Bro
(ps. What are those VGA consoles good for, anyway. We have tens of
alphas and a huge expensive unit to switch around between those
consoles, very fancy. I am used to serial consoles and a very cheap
RS232 switch. And the last messages go away if a system crashes. it
certainly goes into black. Silly things !!)
