Here it is:

If you look at the ftpd(8) reference page, you will see that the DIGITAL
UNIX implementation supports the "SITE" extended commands, and if you look
at the list of "SITE" examples, you'll see these:

  The following nonstandard or UNIX compatible commands are supported by the
  SITE request:

  Request Description

  UMASK Change umask (for example, SITE UMASK 002)

  CHMOD Change mode of a file (for example, SITE CHMOD 755 filename)

(there are some others, too).

I suspect, but would have to confirm, that DIGITAL UNIX's ftp program is
using the SITE CHMOD command to put the same permissions on the file it
transferred to another UNIX system as they have in the source; I doubt that
WinQVT would do this, since the concept of file modes isn't supported on a
Windows 95 system.
