Original query:

We are unable be get SUN Solaris systems to bind with a DEC master NIS
server running DU4.0B (patch level 6). The error given on the SUN
systems is "can't communicate with ypbind".

Summary:

As suggested by Angela MacKenzie the problem lay in SUN land. The Solaris
systems NIS/ypbind had to be patched. We applied both Solaris 2.5.1 and 2.6
patches kits (105165-02/103612-38 and 105403-01/105401-05 respectively).
After changing the NIS domains and rebooting every worked fine.

One word of warning SUN have a job creation scheme which means that these
patches are only available on request. In other words there not on the
SUN official patch site and you'll have to open a support call, then the
kind engineer will give you access to your personal copies (don't share them
now). DEC people, think yourselves lucky.
