kernel configuration error

From: David Clapperton <davidc_at_westminster.ac.uk>

System : Alpha 2100 4/233 (host name CONDOR)

Operating System: Digital Unix v4.0

Output from uname -a command:-

OSF1 condor.wmin.ac.uk V4.0 386 alpha

Task:

Upgrade from Digital Unix v4.0 to v4.0b using installupdate

Problem:

Kernel does not configure.

Description:

The kernel configuration did not complete successfully at the end of the
installupdate procedure. A partial listing of the error log file
/sys/CONDOR/errs follows:-

rm -f vmunix vmunix.sys
loading vmunix.sys
ld:
Error: Undefined:
ev56_bw_io_maps
*** Exit 1 (ignored)
chmod 755 a.out
chmod: a.out: No such file or directory
*** Exit 4
Stop.

There were no visible indications in the file it.log of products which
were incompatible with the base operating system. The subsequent attempt
to build a kernel with the base operating system failed with the same
error message.

The required versions of firmware (4.7) and EISA (1.9) have been installed.

Thanks in advance,
