Hi. My company recently purchased an Alpha Server 400 4/233 with a VT510
terminal. I've worked mainly with Linux and some of the BSDs on x86
hardware, and we do have one noname, but I'm pretty new to Alpha.
I've been having trouble getting the 400 to boot at all -- I know it
was working before it was shipped to us, and I've checked all the hardware
connections and everything looks good.
While messing with it I managed to get auto_action set to boot, and now I
can't even get to the SRM console. When I power on the terminal and then
the server, I get "Selftest OK." If I press a key on the keyboard I get
to the terminal screen and it says "Printer: None" at the bottom. That's
about all she wrote.
At this point, my big hope is to get back to the ">>>" prompt so I can set
auto_action to halt again and try some other things. I don't seem to be
able to get back to the prompt, though. I searched the archives of this
list and tried several of the things I saw suggested, including ^C, ^P,
and unplugging the SCSI cable. I get pretty much the same results.
Please let me know if you have any ideas.
Thanks,
Rich
