Install 4.0D without X?

Is it possible to install DEC Unix 4.0d without the X interface?
I know if you have 32MB of memory or less, or you don't have
a graphics console, X won't start, but I don't want it to start
regardless.

Any ideas? Boot parameters, perhaps?
