My Dec3000 running DU4.0b has suddenly developed a problem that I cannot
directly attribute to any chnages I have made to the system. The
Console window is literally scrolling with the following error messages:
getty: cannot open "/dev/tty0e". errno: 6
getty: cannot open "/dev/tty0a". errno: 6
getty: cannot open "/dev/tty03". errno: 6
getty: cannot open "/dev/tty0b". errno: 6
getty: cannot open "/dev/tty04". errno: 6
getty: cannot open "/dev/tty0c". errno: 6
getty: cannot open "/dev/tty05". errno: 6
getty: cannot open "/dev/tty06". errno: 6
getty: cannot open "/dev/tty0d". errno: 6
This in turns fills up the wtmp file and eventually the file system that
contains this file.
The permissions on the offending ttys are (e.g.):
crw--w--w- 1 root system 5, 2 May 16 1996 tty...
crw--w--w- 1 root system 5, 3 May 16 1996 tty05
crw--w--w- 1 root system 5, 4 May 16 1996 tty...
I have rebooted the box, but to no avail. I do not profess to be a
UNIX wizard, so I am unsure as to how to proceed at this point. Any
insights would be appreciated!
Thanks....
