Help -- Executing scripts with "shutdown -h now"

Immediately after executing a "shutdown -h now" command, I'd like to execute some scripts to shutdown applications running on my alpha box. After shutting down these applications then the shutdown of the unix box could actually occur.

Any help on doing this will be greatly appreciated.

This will help our Computer Operators as in the event of a power failure and before the UPS power is drained, the operator can execute just "shutdown -h now" and all will be taken care off. (All user appls. will automatically be shutdown.).

Thanks.

Robin.
