Adjusting Swap Space

My 4000A came with the primary drive (4G) partitioned as:

126M /
600M swap
1G /usr

leaving 1G unused. I am *constantly* getting "swap space below 10
percent free" errors. Short of adding another disk, it seems the
logical way to go about this is to expand the swap partition. How do I
do this? The neat GUI disk configuration tool won't work, because the
/usr partition has to be adjusted as well. I obviously have to go to
single-user mode and command-line, but from there I'm lost.

Any help would be greatly appreciated (before my users lynch me).
