ISA-bus network card won't work

Does anyone know how to correct an I/O address problem with an
ISA ethernet card?

Problem:

When the machine boots with genvmunix, the kernel informs:

el.mod: All IO space between 0x100 and 0x1F0 is reserved.
el.mod: 3C509 cannot operate without these addresses.
el0: 3C509 not present or not responding at 0x300
el0 not probed

How can I

1. make sure the 0x100-0x1F0 region is not reserved by something else or

2. have el.mod use some other, free area?

The card has valid address range from 0x200h to 0x380h - why does the
driver need 0x100h anyway?
