Dear group, the problem is finally solved.
The original problem were timeouts during backup of about 61 clients
with messages in /nsr/logs/messages like:
----------------------------
...
Feb 20 01:10:52 nsrhost root: * sun01:/usr2 has been inactive for 12
minutes since Thu Feb 19 21:40:57 1998.
Feb 20 01:10:52 nsrhost root: * sun01:/usr2 is being abandoned by
asavegrp.
Feb 20 01:10:52 nsrhost root:
Feb 20 01:10:52 nsrhost root: * zalmet.eurog.org:/ has been inactive for
12 minutes since Thu Feb 19 21:38:58 1998.
Feb 20 01:10:52 nsrhost root: * zalmet.eurog.org:/ is being abandoned by
asavegrp.
...
----------------------------
Some people suggested to increment the INACTIVITY TIMEOUT parameter, and
one sugessted hardware problems.
Finally the problem was caused by ONE Compaqserver running NT4.0. The
100Mbit ethernetcard was configured as auto-detect. When networkload
became high (as with backup) the problem occurred. After setting this
card explicitely to 10Mbit/Full-duplex the problem disappeared.
Another important message in /nsr/log/messages indicating problems was:
...
...: * ntmf.mf.wau.nl:C:\ save: xdr of win32 attributes failed for
`C:\Software\System\'
...
This message seems to indicate general errors withs network-cards,
switches etc.
Thanks to everyone who responded.
