Thanks to all for the responses - the question was

As advised by Roberto Romani,

"If you look at dxkerneltuner and pick the inet service for example it
will have two fields Current and boot time, the parameters which have a
current field can be changed dynamically."

(It seems that the five or six kernel subsets I happened to go into were
not configurable on the fly).
