moving drives

Hello all,

I hope you can help me with this problem. I would like to install
additional drives into an Alphaserver 2100 4/233 that I have inhereted.
Very simple, I've done it before on other machines we have here except there
is one problem. The way the drives are situated, there are gaps between two
of the drives leaving one slot open:

0 : 9GB
1 : 9GB
2 : 9GB
3 : blank
4 : 9GB
5 : blank
6 : 9GB
7 : blank

In my /etc/fstab, drives in banks 4 and 6 are listed as rz3c and rz4c. I
moved the drives into slots 3 and 4 and powered up the server to the >>>
prompt. It still lists the drives as 4 and 6 and when I try to do a boot,
it does not recognize slot 3 yet mounts what is in slot 4. Also, using the
original, I tried to install a drive into slot 3 and the machine hung. I
tired to boot to a generic kernel with all drives in slots 0-4 and build a
brand new kernel but that did not work as well.

So my question is, is there any way that I can move those drives so that I
have 5 consecutive bays filled with 3 empty so that I can install more drive
space? I'm not sure what else to try. Please, any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thank you.
