CMOS problems after workstation underwent site electrical test.

Hi all,

As part of site policy, all electrical products have to be tested with a
'Portable Appliance Tester' (PAT). One of our electricians switched off
a Personal Workstation 433au (no shutdown) without my knowledge (and
before I could get my hands on him!) and proceeded to perform the test.
FYI, one of the many tests the PAT performs is to connect live to ground
and check the consequences of a 500V spike (nice, isn't it!) On powering
the 433au it booted into the 'Windows NT AlphaBIOS' and not the 'Digital
UNIX SRM console'. Why was the CMOS reset?

In addition, I am having problems saving the CMOS settings. For example,
from the AlphaBIOS when I change the boot options back to SRM, save the
changes to CMOS and perform a power-cycle I find the CMOS settings reset
back to the default AlphaBIOS. It would seem the only way I can access the
SRM console is to save the CMOS settings and then to press the 'reset'
button. However, all CMOS settings are subsequently lost when I later
switch off the 433au workstation.

Has the technician 'fried' the CMOS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Rich
