Hi --

'Twas a tough question, because almost 30 whole minutes elapsed
between my sending the question and receiving the answers :-).

Question was regards this warning message on one of our machines:

Warning: /etc/sysconfigtab size exceeds 32767 bytes.
All attribute defaults not picked up.

Answers came from

    Richard L Jackson Jr <rjackson_at_portal.gmu.edu>

The underlying cause was probably a many-months-ago change to
/etc/sysconfigtab which appeared near the TOP of the file:

    vm:
            new-wire-method = 0

The supported way to edit sysconfigtab is to use the sysconfigdb
utility which puts customized entries properly at the BOTTOM of the
file. Apparently this was done correctly on all machines except this
one--not sure why. Brain damage, perhaps.

This undetected corruption caused (months later) one of the Digital
Unix 4.0B patch kits to add redundant information to the file, causing
it to balloon. Hence our problem. (The specific patch is #99 in patch
kit #4, or #189 in patch kit #5.)

One fix method is to put back the original sysconfigtab (by undoing the
patch), redo the customization correctly, and then re-install the patch.

In a future release, the maximum configtab size will be increased
from 32K to 144K.

Many thanks to Tom, Jan, and Richard. [And to the list manager
who keeps the list sane and incredibly useful.]
