Sorry for the delay in sending a summary.

Thanks to Richard Rogers with the answer. I had to include the following
definitiom in Makefile

PLATFORMCFLAGS= -Dosf1 -DUSE_SYSCONF

And modify setproctitle.c to do nothing.

The program still has problems.

The command web500gw -v dumps core. This is correctable by comenting out the
definitions for web browsers at the end of web500gw.conf.

There are erros reported when connecting which need looking into. sample
here:

syslog: 132.206.101.55 "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 0 "World" Mozilla en "" 1
castle.med
cor.mcgill.ca localhost
select: Interrupted system call


However, it now compiles without errors and I'm able to see some initial
pages.

Since my earlier message, I've found a message relating to my own problems -
here's an extract:

The fix for web500gw is to comment out all calls to setproctitle().
It's now running OK.
