Hello --
As usual, thanks for the high quality answers from everyone.
Here is a summary on additional tools people recommended.
Thanks to:
Richard Cooper rcooper_at_desdbx.com
A re-written version of iostat for DEC UNIX is available at:
ftp://raven.alaska.edu/pub/sois/ uaio-v2.1.tar.Z
There is also a monitor utility for DEC UNIX available at:
ftp://gatekeeper.dec.com/pub/DEC/ monitor.alpha.tar.Z

The performance manager(PMGR) will give you a lot of good info.
It is on the associated products CD.
Also: xperfmon+ and other tools on the Freeware CD are helpful.
The Freeware stuff is also at the digital FTP sight.

pmgr is good, but I don't know if it is part of 3.2. This is at least
on 4.0B
Keith kstran_at_acxiom.com
Thanks Keith, for attaching sample utilities of xperfmon++_tar.Z,
sys_check.tar, acxiom_vmubuc.tar.Z
Bernt Christandl beb_at_mpe.mpg.de
Bernt recommended the following:
'top' for an overall idea of what's going on.
'monitor' to investigate in greater depth.
'vmubc' from DEC support for monitoring kernel parameters.
'xload' under the application manger 'cpuinfo'
then check out the polycenter perfomance manager.
I will be checking out quite a few of the utilities recommended.
Thanks again,
