Many thanks to Dr. Thomas P. Blinn (tpb_at_zk3.dec.com) and
alan_at_nabeth.cxo.dec.com.
Dr. Thomas P. Blinn suggested that CAM Medium Changer Driver V3.1A is
incompatible with Digital UNIX 4.0D rev 878, and alan_at_nabeth.cxo.dec.com
suggested installing the CAM Layered Components kit, V3.1C, that came on the
Associated Products CDROMs of the V4.0D distribution.
I have now installed CAM Medium Changer Driver V3.1B which I found in a
seperate area on the TZ885 install disk and this work fine. (I do not have
the Associated Products CDROMs of the V4.0D distribution)

Original message:
Dear All,
We have a new Alphaserver 1200 5/533 system which we bought with a TZ885 DLT
mini-library. The TZ885 came with Media Robot Utility 1.2. I installed this
exactly as detailed in the instruction that came with the TZ885 using setld
and everything went fine, the last part of the install put on CAM Medium
Changer Driver V3.1A. After this the installer rebuilt the kernel and I
restarted the system.
When the system came up the Media Changer was there as device mc21b as I
expected, but any attempt to access this device using xrobot, robot or even
just file mc21b crashes the system. I have tried completely removing MRU and
CAM Medium Changer Driver V3.1A and re-installing, but this makes no
difference the system still crashes every time.
I am no Digital Unix expert and cannot understand what the crash-data is
telling me, part of it says:
trap: invalid memory read access from kernel mode
faulting virtual address: 0x616964654d205ab4
pc of faulting instruction: 0xfffffc000061fff4
ra contents at time of fault: 0xfffffc0000246df0
sp contents at time of fault: 0xffffffff90cf75e0
panic (cpu 0): kernel memory fault
I can mail the whole of this to anyone kind enough to help and who thinks it
would be of use (it is about 27k).
My system configuration is:
Alphaserver 1200 5/333 1 CPU Firmware revision 5.1
Digital UNIX 4.0D rev 878
TZ-885 on scsi2 target5 lun0 (LID=6)with changer on scsi2 target5 lun1
(LID=7)
Thanks,
