Many thanks to:

Dr. Tom Blinn
Vikas Sontakke
Phil Ash

For their responses to my question. I asked about the device driver
support for a Bit-3 PCI to VME interface card on Alphastations under
DUNIX.

Tom Blinn and Vikas Sontakke (both of DEC) suggested checking into the
single board VME alpha computer products. These look very interesting,
but I'll have to study the specifications to see if they can do what we
need. For one thing, we're using the DMA engine on our existing Bit-3
card to move data between the VME bus and host memory since our VME
device is running strictly in slave mode. I don't know for sure at this
time if the Alpha SBCs have a DMA engine on the VME bus adapter that can
do the same thing, so I'll keep digging into the spec pages.

Phil Ash found the following product from DEC:

DWPVC-BA, PCI-VME adapter and device driver.

This was what I was asking about, and I would prefer this approach since
this would mean a minimal of software changes. It uses the Bit-3 617
product, which does support DMA between the busses. I just hope that
the DEC driver make use of this.
